Week 6

The word for this week is: "Abstract".  This is a painting I did that I loaded into my ipod and applied several apps to it.  I merged an image of a forest of "quaking aspens" which gave me the effect of scratches.  Share your links in the comment area so we can view your abstract photos!

Week 1

Our first of 52 word prompts is "Resolution".  Do you make a list of the goals you hope to achieve during the coming year?  Do you visualize them?  If so, why not take some photos and tack them up in a place where you can see your thoughts and be reminded of your commitment to yourself.  Or share them on your blog or flickr, etc. and post a thumbnail here with a link to your photo(s), via the new linky widget.  (I'm hoping it works for everyone, if not I'll simply remove it.)  So put on your thinking caps, or make a list and then start snapping away.  Or dust off those older images and share them with us.  Don't be afraid to use those apps or digital software to alter your photos if you like!  Just have fun and share with us!

Mister Linky's Magical Widgets -- Thumb-Linky widget will appear right here!

November 2011 Challenge

There is an over abundance of texture in our world and this month I would like to challenge you to get out and grab some photos of texture that can be combined with other images to alter them digitally.  Here are a few textures I took while on a recent road trip to Soda Springs, Idaho and Keystone, South Dakota.  Once you have some interesting textures from around your home or town, use them with a blending mode to merge the texture with another interesting image.  I will be combining these two images together to see what I come up with.  Maybe even throw in a third image!  Have some fun with your photos this month and be sure to share them with us!

September Challenge

I have another video for you this month, that shows you how to create a custom color palette from a photo or digital image.  The challenge this month is to find a photo and create a color palette to share with your fellow digital artists.  Here is the color chart I created from the video that is hosted over at my Photobucket album.  (Sorry-I wouldn't normally send you to another link to watch the video, but I am having a problem getting it loaded here this morning.)
If you do not have Photoshop Elements, you can download a free digital software called "Gimp".  To see this video to create a color palette using this free software, click HERE.

6-01-2011

For the month of June I thought we could try something different.  Over in the sidebar, there are additional pages which I have been using to post digital tutorials and I've added a new one this month.  "Grungy Abstract Painting" is a new tutorial I wrote and played around with yesterday.  I loved the results, so thought I would share this fun technique with all of you.  Have fun!

Happy May Day!

I have a different challenge for the month of May-a color challenge.  Here is your palette:
The challenge is to create a finished layout, using only these colors!  You can over paint a photo using these colors & brushes, you can use blending modes and layers of these colors, or you can layer textures with these colors and add images-lots of ways to work with digital software and color.  Have fun, experiment with your options and share your work with us!

As a photo challenge-you can really be specific with these color choices or you can use flowers that are blooming all around you, for your inspiration.  My tulips are in bloom but so are my plum trees which have the most beautiful hot & light colored pinks.  Perfect for this challenge!  Have fun!

New Digital Challenge Group Forming! Come Join Me!

I wanted to invite you to join me for a new adventure in digital art.  Over at CreativeSouls I have started a group called Story Time.  We are working with our 4th quote from the book titled: "Hunger Games" and in keeping with this month's challenge of using a black and white image (see challenge below) and applying color, I did this layout.   No, it's not this month's challenge image, but it did start out as a black and white photo.    Come and join us!  Come and share your work and get some weekly quotes to help inspire you.

Quote Used: ""What about me?  Could you think about me as a friend?"

#5 Challenge Photo

I am in the process of creating some background stock that I will have available for everyone to use.  I thought it would be interesting to offer you this background this month to see what you can do with it.
As for a theme-I'll leave that up to you, based on how this background inspires you.  Have fun and don't forget to share your work by posting a comment with a link!

#1 Digital Challenge & Photo Prompt

(Click on the photo to enlarge, than right click to save.)
This is a photo I took during a road trip through the Mesa Verde area of southern Utah.  I doubt this door is original, more than likely it was added to keep vandals out, but I liked the idea of opening doors, new opportunities, knocking on doors, pathways, etc.  Use your imagination to digitally manipulate this photo and share it with us.

The 1st Photo Prompt is: "First Light"

Have fun with these challenges and please add a link in the comments as described in the "Rules" above.
